电影由一名生活在布鲁克林区与艾滋病作抗争的女性Ana Willis的真实故事改编。Ana的生活中充满了毒品与艾滋病，她在艾滋病社区中承担起了，救助和宣传艾滋病知识的工作。Ana的丈夫Slick(Wendell Pierce饰演), 就曾与艾滋病人共同吸毒。在Ana的外祖母Lucille(Anna Deavere Smith饰演）因忍受不了这种折磨，远走弗吉尼亚洲。有一天一名艾滋病感染者Amare (Evan Ross饰演)突然消失了，Ana也踏上了寻找他的路中。。In desperate debt to their volatile drug dealer, best friends Denise and Johnny agree to a sketchy job to pay off their last hit - breaking into a decrepit stash house to steal a bag of mysterious drugs.
