古巴驻美大使在纽约市，当著古巴军事情报局头子陶瑞纳及其首席副官捐安贝格多的面前遭人刺杀，美国联邦警长麦克陶思的训练师亚历克斯瑞德及中情局中级官员指派他，必须在该名刺客再度杀之前追捕到她，中情局认为那件暗杀是席梦依罗宾蒂所为，她是一名年轻美丽的法国刺客，德恩不这么认为，因席梦依自１９８８年起就未曾再涉入暗杀行动，尽管如此，德恩必须在古／美高峰会议召开前，只有４８小时的时间在布拉客找到席梦依。。British Army radiation drills at a remote Scottish base attract a subterranean, radioactive entity of unknown nature that vanishes, leaving two severely radiation-burned soldiers... and a "bottomless" crack in the earth.
