Every year, thousands of high schoolers enter the August Wilson monologue competition for a chance to perform on Broadway. This film follows these students, examining how Wilson and his characters speak to a new generation, inspiring them to listen to his words and find their own voice.。本来大有前途的顾川，因青梅竹马苏妍留在小城市发展。可随着时间推移，苏妍越发不在乎顾川的感受，甚至和别的男人领了结婚证。顾川忍无可忍，决定离开苏妍去海外发展，并与一直仰慕他的千金学妹结成伴侣。而苏妍逐渐后悔，想要与顾川重修旧好。。石头村的寡妇刘兰花经历曲折，与现在的丈夫任老根结婚后，怕任老根再要孩子对自己的残疾孩子黑蛋不好，自作主张去做了节育手术。这引起了任老根的不满，两个人的关系开始僵持起来。恰在此时，镇上要举行运动会，腿有残疾的黑蛋坚持要参加……。
